Humanities
This week the president presentations began. So far, most students are well prepared and are comfortable talking in front of the class. We have had many experiences to do public speaking and it is great to see that they are less nervous, or at least appear to be less nervous. :) Also, this week, we are learning about the westward movement. They are learning about four major events that helped populate the west: the trails, the Texas Revolution, the war with Mexico, and the California gold rush. This will continue into next week. There will be work to do outside of class, so please make sure to check in with your child about homework. Lastly, we have MAP testing for ELA on Monday and Tuesday. Make sure they get some rest.
Math
This week in math, we had mainly focused on the MAP testing. The vast majority of students in the REACH program made awesome growth on this year’s spring MAP testing! Looking ahead to next week, Math 8 students will be finishing up the current chapter about Systems of Linear Equations and will need to take chapter test by Thursday at the latest. There will be review time for them during the week leading up to the test. Algebra students want to be moving onto Chapter 11 this week and hopefully be nearing the mid-unit quiz by the end of the week.
For both math classes, final exams are being scheduled for the very end of the school year. I’ve talked with Mrs. Kastengren, but I plan to have the Algebra students take the final exam with all of the other Algebra students in the cafeteria on Friday, June 2nd (tentatively). If need be we also have the following Monday or Tuesday to take it.
