Humanities This week we divided into North and South to do battles and see who will win our classroom war. Students know all their work for this week and next week. They have daily “battles” to earn points. This week we did a color battle, Kahoot battle, and daily assignment battles. They have really taken charge and are working for their team to win! Next Friday is the actual Civil War Re-enactment for the 8th grade. Please feel free to come and observe the activities. I will send a schedule out through Skyward. |
Also, Absolutely Waterford is holding a POP event, Preserve Our Past, to be held in the Community Room of the library from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on May 24th. In recognition of National Historic Preservation Month, the AW design committee is putting on an event to show the public what projects we are working on and display some Waterford artifacts. At this event, they will have the Time Capsule artifacts created by your children. They will also be officially sealing the capsule to be opened in 25 years. I hope you are able to attend this community event.
Math 8 This past week, all Math 8 students have finished with the prior unit and have moved onto our last unit, which is the Geometry unit. Students are using a different platform for learning the information: edpuzzle.com. Along with that, we are having a mini lesson per day. There are is no major quiz or test for this unit, but rather mini-quizzes after each section and 3 projects throughout the unit. Students will continue to work at their own pace through the unit to be completed before the end of the year. We will be having a final exam the last Monday of the school year! That’st June 5th. :) |
Algebra
The Algebra 1 exam is officially scheduled for Friday, June 2nd from 6th-8th hours. The goal is to have the REACH Algebra students take it at the same time as all the other Algebra students that day, but if any students need the weekend to study I will allow them to take it on Monday the 5th. Since that is now about 2 weeks away, we had a chat this week about planning out how to finish everything that needs to be finished. There are 12 total chapters, and Chapter 12 is very short because it is a review of statistical measures that they learned in 7th grade. As always, students are welcome after school most days and during lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays if they are feeling stressed about finishing up Algebra 1 and need some extra math time!
