Humanities
This week was spent on Forward testing, final movies, time capsule project, and the legislative branch. We did a little bit of everything around testing. Movie awards were given out on Friday. Ask your child which category they won! I asked them how they enjoyed the process. They were all in agreement that they enjoyed the process and it was fun to see everyone’s movies. Also they agreed that they didn’t like watching their own movie especially if they had to listen to their own voice. :) All of them said I should continue this project in the future which was good to hear. Overall, they viewed it as an important learning experience.
As we move forward next week, students will continue meetings with me to show me their final artifact for the “Time Capsule” project. They will show me what they have accomplished and we will have a discussion about the next steps. If necessary, I will let them know what needs to be added or changed so that they can make sure to have this completed next week. When we return from spring break, we will practice their presentations in class before the presentation at the library. Please join us that day if you are able.
Time Capsule Community Project
Please join us to celebrate the community of Waterford through the eyes of an 8th grader. Students have worked to create an artifact to be encapsulated for 25 years. On this day, the students will do a presentation explaining the rationale and the artifact. We hope you can be part of this event! Use the link below to RSVP.

Forward Exam
As many of you have already found out, our students have been taking the Wisconsin state Forward Testing. They have all already completed the Science, Math, and ELA portions the past 3 weeks. This week students are taking final tests in Social Studies next week. The plan is to test on Monday and Tuesday.

Math At the very beginning of this past week, Math 8 students all completed their Chapter 5 test. The grades will be soon posted in Skyward. We then started our study of systems of linear equations. We’ve had mini-lessons and practice on the first 2 sections of the chapter this week already and plan to learn the 3rd method to solve these systems next week in section 6.3. Most students are simply keeping up with the given pacing, which is totally alright. I continue to remind them that they may move ahead, as all the videos and homework are posted on moodle! The two main groups in Algebra right now are finishing up on either Chapter 8 or Chapter 9. The students in the Chapter 9 group should hopefully be halfway through Chapter 10 by spring break, which puts them in a pretty good place to finish up the year. The Chapter 8 group knows that they have to work a bit harder to complete all the required units before the end of the year, but it's’ definitely doable. I am definitely not assigning homework over spring break, but for some that might be a great opportunities to catch up on some work or get ahead to make the remainder of the school year easier. |
