Humanities This week we turned our attention to the beginning of our country. Our class spent time learning about how the Constitution was created and ratified. We also had to spend time preparing for Forward testing. The students were able to practice with the tools and learn the type of questions they would encounter. Hopefully this preparation will help them feel comfortable as they test over the next few weeks. Writing - same as last week We are still working on the narrative productions. They will be viewed on March 30th and 31st. Students need to have a completed product to share in the viewing. Feel free to have your children share their final product with you before it is due. Maybe you can give them some valuable feedback. :) Math This week in math we continued with the general pacing and split in groups for Algebra based on the students’ pacing. In Math 8, one highlight from this week was an activity that helped students figure out, using inquiry methods, the relationship between the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines. Students worked really well in groups, and we’ll revisit that this coming week as we finish up our unit about linear equations and slope. In Algebra 1, students continued at their pace, mainly in two groups: those on or around the expected pacing, and those slightly behind pacing. Most students were very productive this week. To keep up with the requirements, students should be in the first half of Chapter 9 and taking the mid-chapter quiz this coming week. March Madness Movie Tournament The past couple of weeks, students have had some March Madness fun in their math classes. The math teachers created a 64 team bracket of popular movies, and students were able to fill out the bracket by picking their favorites for each match-up. The whole school then has been voting for each round every couple of days and then the students get to see how their bracket matched up with how the school voted. We are currently in the Sweet 16 round moving toward the Elite 8 this week. The student with the best bracket in the end will receive a prize! Forward Exam As many of you have already found out, our students start the Forward testing this coming week, which is the state-mandated standardized test. Students will be taking the Science portion this coming week, followed by the Math portion the following week, and then the ELA and Social Studies in the next two weeks, respectively. |
