Humanities This week we started a president project. The students will learn about one of the first seven presidents, create a group presentation, and activity for the class. Each group will have one class period to teach their president. At the end, the class will take a quiz created by the presenting group. Time Capsule Community Project On Friday, we presented the artifacts to go in the time capsule. We met at the library and explained the projects. Thanks to those that attended to celebrate our learning. If you were unable to make it, you can check out the website to learn about their final artifacts. The capsule is slated to be opened in 2042. |
Math 8
We are finishing up one of the more challenging units in Math 8 right now - Systems of Linear Equations. The majority of students have been doing a fantastic job with this unit right now and have finished up most of the requirements before the test. There are only 4 sections, so the homework for each section is in Skyward. Due to MAPs testing this week, students will have most of their time to catch up on any work from this chapter or work on the Enrichment activity for the unit, which is a CSI Project. The plan is that all students will take the test by May 9th and will have the final month to focus on the final unit - Geometry Hodgepodge!
Algebra
Those students who are keeping up with the pacing would be starting Chapter 11 this week! There is a small group of students finishing Chapter 10 yet, a small group finishing Chapter 9, and a small group finishing Chapter 8. A good reminder to those still in Chapter 8, there are 12 chapters to successfully complete before taking the final exam at the very end of the school year. Those students who do not successfully complete or pass each unit and the exam will not be recommended to move onto Geometry next year. That expectation has been the same throughout the year, but it’s a good reminder as we begin the last full month of school this week. Hard work pays off!
Geometry and Beyond
Throughout the school year, two students have taken full advantage of the flexible pacing in REACH to go above and beyond the required curriculum. One student has successfully completed Algebra 1 and is at the midway point through Geometry, and hoping to move onto Algebra 2/Trig next year! The other students has already successfully completed Algebra 1 and Acc Geometry and is currently dabbling in Trigonometry (we’ve had some good discussion about sinusoidal functions recently). I just wanted to recognize these to students and their continued efforts to go above and beyond!
