Humanities
Wow! We had an exciting week in Humanities. On Monday, we finished preparing and practicing the 5th grade learning stations. On Tuesday, we walked to Woodfield and presented to the 5th graders. It was so wonderful to see the 8th graders shine during their presentations. I heard many of the 5th graders comment, “That was so fun!” throughout our time there. Then on Wednesday and Thursday, we turned our attention to the Time Capsule project and the narrative production. Students were given time to research and create. All groups were met with on both projects as a check in and to see what they needed. Next week, we will be continuing our exploration of the strange and mysterious my reading more literature.
Writing
This week we had time to work on the productions. Students must work through the step and meet with me before they begin to produce. This meeting should happen by next Friday (3/3).

Math
Math 8
This week was a short week, so we mainly used it as work time to ask questions and also review time, since most students are finishing up Chapter 4. I observed a lot of hard work this week and look forward to more next week.
This week students were supposed to be working on the beginning of Chapter 5, based upon the pacing guide, and many students just finished up the Chapter 4 test this week instead. To make an adjustment to the pacing, most students will be taking the Exam after Chapter 4 and then also working on Chapter 5. Mini-lessons for 5.1 and 5.2 will be next week, instead of this week. This is a good reminder for students to come prepared to the mini-lessons with video notes ahead of time.
Algebra 1
As mentioned previously, students are working on following the pacing, which puts us in the beginning of Chapter 8. While some students are ahead of that, some are right at that, and some are behind, I’m really looking for good work ethic. No matter if you’re ahead or behind, the consistent good work ethic is something that will carry them places in life, not just in school. Since mini-lessons are slightly behind the pacing, we had mini-lessons on 7.1-7.4 this week, and we’ll be having them for 7.5-7.8 next week. The encouragement for those students who are behind pacing is to at least keep up with the mini-lesson pacing, because it will eventually match back up to the pacing given in the weekly pacing guide.
Just a friendly reminder that there are numerous resources for math other than the in-class instruction, including the videos I’ve provided, the online textbook (linked to moodle), Khan Academy, and any other online source that you could find helpful!
Geometry
Something fun to share was a project I received this week from a student. She created a different type of “Clue” game that included a lot of questions about similarity. She incorporated proportions in most of the questions, which is the basis of similarity in shapes. She is very interested in the medical field, so the theme was Hospital Clue. It was a creative way to show her learning!
